With the ridiculous amount of grasshoppers on my land, it is nice to see the friendly face of a Praying Mantis. This one was munching on a little bug and hopefully will move on to larger things.

This has been a particularity bad year for grasshoppers in New Mexico. Apparently the dry weather has caused them reproduce like crazy. I have been using NoLo on them with good success, but the numbers that I have on my property are still high.

I was just sitting on the ground, taking photos of the Agastache(Desert Sunrise) I planted earlier this summer when this little guy started hovering in front of me. Apparently he or she was not impressed that I was sitting so close to the tasty flowers. This must have something to do with the common name for the plant, Hummingbird Mint.
